Philips FWB C780/01 speakers
Speakers from Philips FW 780 stereo set.
- 3-way with bass reflex and passive membrane
- 6 Ohms
- 2x120W RMS - assuming they are matching audio set
Broken WOOX passive radiator seems to be a common issue for this and similar speakers. Original components are not available and common repair method is to use two rubber suspension with different diameters as a replacement.
Silver bezel is slightly hard to remove as some glue is used.
This component have actually two suspensions, but the one on the back is not damaged.
There is a tube in the middle and then another tube - is it overenginered?
Rubber suspensions used as replacement: outer one with 135 mm outer diameter, inner one with 60 mm inner diameter.
Total cost: 54 PLN (~$14.50) with free shipping.
I've used transparent T-7000 glue. At this point I think that this name does not mean anything, as name
is not even the same on the front and on the back (T-8000) of the tube.
Can of varnish has ideal shape and diameter to hold back together outer and inner suspension when gluing them back.
Plastic tube also needed gluing back.
Second woox had slightly damaged also bottom suspension, but glue was enough to fix it.
Gluing inner and middle ring at the same time, again using can of varnish to hold it. Outer ring was glued later.
Final result looks pretty fine in my opinion.
Main speaker also had foam suspension, but without any signs of damage.
Crossover is just a single capacitor. I guess it was not made for precision, just a lot of oomph.
Tweeter.
Piezo tweeter. I'm not sure if it actually works or not, either I'm too old for this or it is drowned by the bass.
Main speaker is rated for 100W, so it looks like Philips had not lied about power.
